From the very early years, the mother gave the first shoe of her baby to a special craftsman to coat it with shiny metal, so when the time came for her child to leave and make his / her own family, she would pass it on as a shiny memorabilia of his / her birth and a wish for luck and all the best for his new life.
Nowadays, this “custom” has been perceived also as a unique gift for the godmother / father the day of the baptism of the child.
The technical procedure is mainly hand made, starting from the preparation of the shoe in order to “stabilize” it at the desired shape. Then it is insulated with three layers of special insulation liquid. It is left to dry for 2-3 days and then it is placed it in the electroforming device of copper for 1-2 days. After its coating with copper, it is cut, smoothed, polished and at the end it is finished with special varnish, so as to stabilize the “color” of the metal and make it last through the years.
We can also engrave a name and a date if the surface allows us to do so!
